CURRENT AED DAUGHTER BOARDS

Signalware AED Daughterboards

Signalware offers a large selection of AED Series Daughtercards for mounting on Texas Instruments C5x/C6x Evaluation Modules (EVM) and DSP Starter Kits (DSK). More than 1000 combinations of A/D converters and D/A converters have model numbers. Many other build-to-order combinations are quickly constructed to meet customer needs. When Signalware digital interface cards and the variety of Field Programable Gate Arrays available on Signalware daughtercards is considered, the number of daughterboards readily available climbs to over 1,000,000. All AED Series cards include some digital I/O for synchronization, control and sensing. The picture on the right shows an example of a AED series card.

The combination of a Texas Instruments EVM or DSK with up to three "stacked" daughtercards provides an excellent basis for building proof-of-concept demonstrations and developing prototypes. By themselves, the DSP boards have limited input/output capability for attaching the sensors, actuators, and analog circuits that are part of embedded DSP products. However, daughtercards offer a wide variety of ways to expand the capability of these DSP Target Boards. Signalware AED series daughtercards attach directly to the TI Common Connector interface on the EVM and DSK boards. Most Signalware daughtercards offer "stacking" connectors as an option to allow additional boards to be mounted directly on the back of the first daughtercard. Up to two additional Signalware and other manufacture's compatible daughtercards may be directly mounted (stacked) as the DSP I/O capability and availability of power permit. The picture below shows an AED series daughter card mounted on a TI 6711 DSK.

ORSYS DSP & Peripheral Card

Additional expansion of the capability of EVMs and DSKs to prototype new systems is provided through Signalware adaptors for other types of cards. The ORSYS "micro-line" peripheral cards are also designed to operate with TI C6x/C5x DSPs. Signalware offers the ORS series of "micro-line" cards, and these cards are available from other manufactures as well. The Signalware Adaptor for ORS Series Cards attachs the "micro-line" card to the TI DSK or EVM or to a "stack" of AED daughtercards mounted directly on the DSP target. The picture on the right shows a ORS series card mounted on a TI 6713 DSK.

AED Series Cards and ORS Series Cards for mounting on TI DSK or EVM are sold directly by Signalware in the United States, Canada and the Americas. Some overseas countries are served by local DSK Distributors; otherwise Signalware sells world wide.

Peripheral Cards for ORSYS "micro-line" TI C6x/C5x DSP Boards

ORSYS DSP/Memory Card

For quickly converting a TI DSP demonstration or prototype to a production system, the "micro-line" TI DSP boards manufactured by ORSYS are an ideal solution. They provide DSP and memory combinations that make porting applications from TI DSK easy to do. The ORSYS cards operate over wide temperature range and vibration conditions. The ORSYS DSP Boards are available in configurations with DSP plus memory, FPGA, and/or on-board I/O. The DSP card, peripheral cards, and power supply card form a "micro-line" stack which may include many different peripheral cards. The stack may include multiple buses to interconnect the cards in the stack which may extend throughout the stack or part way through the stack. The entire stack is more compact than the corresponding DSK/AED card stack. The picture on the right shows an 6711 DSP card in the "micro-line" format cards.

Signalware ORS Series Peripheral Cards mount anywhere in the "micro-line" stack All the ORS Series cards have connectors that allow for connecting to cards above and below the peripheral card. The ORS series includes 12-16 bits A/Ds and D/As in various numbers of channels from 1 to 12. All ORS11x cards include 4 in and 4 out digital I/O for control and synchronization. An all digital I/O card is available which supports LVTTL, LVDS and opto-isolated interfaces. Digital I/O cards are especially useful for interfacing a "micro-line" stack with EVM cards produced by virtually all semiconductor device manufactures. Stacking of multiple cards of various types including Signalware peripheral cards, cards from other "micro-line" manufacturers and semiconductor manufacturer EVMs can form a multiplicity of systems. Ethernet, firewire and disk drive cards as well as DSP cards are available. The picture below shows a Signalware ORS112 card which is typical of all ORS11x cards.

ORS Peripheral Card
AED Card on "micro-line" Stack

In order to get a concept demonstration or prototype going quickly with a "micro-line" stack where the necessary ORS Series card is not available, Signalware offers an adaptor. The Signalware Adaptor for AED Series Cards attaches the TI Common Connector cards to the top of a "micro-line" stack. AED Series cards as well as the semiconductor manufacturer EVM cards can fill specialized needs until a new ORS Series card is available. While application software is developed and testing is done on the prototype, Signalware will create the corresponding new ORS card with Signalware's ORS11x base card development framework. On the base card, over one half the necessary circuits for the new ORS card including the "micro-line" interface are in place and ready to go. The framework includes FPGA and software modules necessary to complete the new card's firmware and software very rapidly. Signalware can add the custom circuits to the base card and have it ready for delivery in about 60 days and at considerably less cost than developing a wholly new card. The new card generally requires no application software modification when it is placed in the micro-line stack replacing the AED Series card and the adaptor or semiconductor manufacturer EVM. The picture on the right shows the two AED Series cards mounted on top of a "micro-line" stack using the adaptor. The "micro-line" stack below includes two "micro-line" cards and the power supply base.

ORS Series cards for mounting on ORSYS DSP cards are sold through ORSYS distributors world wide. AED Series cards with "micro-line" adaptors are available through ORSYS distributors by special order.
