ORS-90x Micro-line Daughterboard Adaptor

DATA SHEET

The SIGNALWARE ORS-90x Micro-line Adaptor is intended to assist Micro-line customers by supplying a wide variety of peripheral cards for prototyping. The adaptor allows Texas Instruments Multi-platform Daughter Cards compliant with specification document SPRA711 (TI-711) to be used with the Micro-line processor stack. This gives the Micro-line customer access to more than 1000 models of TI-711 cards on the market today. All the Signalware Analog Expansion Daughterboards may be used on Micro-line products with the ORS-90x Adaptor, and the SPRA711 compliant daughter cards of other vendors may be used where they are consistent with Micro-line interface requirements.

ORS-900 Mock-up Photo The photograph shows a mechanical mock-up of the Micro-line stack with two AED series daughterboards stacked on top of it using the Micro-line adaptor. AED series cards can be stacked up to 3 deep by ordering them with optional stacking connectors.

Standard configurations available allow for variation on the power supply used on the Micro-line stack. Either the 3.3V or the 5V digital power supply may be used. The ORS-90x connects the available digital supply directly to the corresponding supply on the TI-711 interface. A 3.3V digital supply is generated for the TI-711 if the 5V model is used. If the 3.3V model is used, a separate +5V digital supply is not provided on the adaptor. A +5V analog supply for the TI-711 is generated from the +12V general supply. This may be used for the +5V digital supply if desired. The optional +/- 12V supplies for TI-711 interface may be generated from the Micro-line +/- 15V supply, or the +/- 15V supplies may be directly connected to the TI-711 interface in place of the +/- 12V supplies.

The connection between the Micro-line P-connector and the ORS90x Adaptor is accomplished by a small card called the ORS901 and a 20 conductor ribbon cable. This is necessary because Micro-line processor cards that normally are on the top of the stack do not support the P-connector. The ORS901 and the ribbon cable are supplied with the Micro-line to TI-711 ORS90x models.

The ORS-90x adaptor is ideally suited to prototyping applications with the Micro-line processor stack. To obtain mechanical conformity with the Micro-line stack a line of production peripheral cards is available which are discussed below .

ORS-900 block diagram, below, is an example of one board configuration in the ORS-90x series:

The ORS-90x Adaptor can also be used to connect Micro-line cards to the TI-711 compliant DSK, EVM, TEB, IEK and DEK series DSP boards. The ORS-90x Adaptor is available in models with replicate the effect of using different Micro-line power supply cards by connecting either the 3.3V or 5V supplies to the Micro-line 5/3.3V power supply pins. All voltages normally supplied on the Micro-line P-connector must be supplied to that connector on the Micro-line card by an external source.

Micro-line Peripheral Cards for Production

Signalware also produces Micro-line peripheral cards conformal with the Micro-line mechanical specifications for production applications. These cards are available in quantites of 50 or more with lead times of about 40 working days. These cards may include any combination of the AED daughterboard capabilities consistent with the size of the Micro-line conformal peripheral cards. Custom oversized peripheral cards can also be made. (Note that the TI-711 cards are more than twice the area of the Micro-line peripheral card.)

Signalware suggests that the customer use an AED series daughterboard to initially prototype the desired configuration with the ORS-90x Adaptor. In this way, the customer is assured of the desired operation without multiple iterations of the production Micro-line peripheral card. Also, only the circuitry finally required by the application will be included in the peripheral card so that it can meet the mechanical size restrictions. The lead times mentioned above are predicated on the successful completion of such a prototyping phase.
