D/A Converter Selection Table

From the table below, select the combination of Settling Time and bit width required for D/A(s). Click on "Avail" for the choice of AED models that can provide the selected capability. ? indicates the category has not been researched and documented. Please complete a Customer Reply Form indicating A/D, D/A and interface requirements. We will search for devices that meet your needs that fit on an AED product.

In feedback control applications, latency is often the critical specification instead of settling time. In order to get the desired latency, D/A converters with higher clock rates may be used to reduce the latency although the same value may be sent for several clocks. A special option is available for this purpose. Selection of the lowest settling time for the bit width available in the table below will generally show the lowest latencies available. Parallel interface converters will have lower latency that serial device interfaces.

Table Notes:
* - Sample rates for D/As are often substantially higher that reciprocal of settling time. However, settling time limits the highest frequency at which a full scale wave can be generated. Most D/A sampling rates more than cover the Nyquist rate for settling time driven frequency. Therefore, settling time is a better barometer of the capability of a D/A than the maximum sampling rate.
