TMS320C5/6xxx Multi-Platform Daughter Board

SignalStrip FPGA Carrier Board

NEW STUFF FOR YOU DSP GUYS TO DREAM ABOUT

We are coming out with a new product line called the AED4xx Series to replace our AED3xx Series of DSP boards that is cheaper and still offers many of the options of the AED3xx line. These new boards will also replace several of our AED1xx series of boards as well. We are really excited about this new line. I hope you will become as excited as we are. Some of you may be and some of you may not be, I expect.

We beat the classic trade-off between offering products that are moderately priced and offering products that are customized to specific customer needs, this time anyway, by going to a modular approach. You can mix and match standardized modules for instant flexibility at a moderate price. Neat, right?

FPGAs are also getting a lot bigger as well as a lot cheaper. In fact, we found that the Spartan-3 XC3S1000 Xilinx FPGA, for example, was cheap enough that it didn't make much sense to use anything smaller. We will soon be offering larger FPGAs.

The AED400 board is the basis of the modular approach with the FPGA on it. A series of Signal Strip Units (SSUs) attach to the AED400 on which are mounted the analog-to-digital and digital-to-analog conversion devices. The SSUs screw into the AED400 FPGA carrier board to get power and connect to the FPGA. Product flexibility is obtained by choosing a variety of SSUs to attach to the carrier board.

Five SSUs are planned for inital introduction. You can view the details of these SSUs here. Custom SSUs built to customer specifications can be available in thirty to sixty days depending upon the complexity of the design.

Our Modular Approach

You can mix and match SSUs as long as the total width of the selected SSUs does not exceed the width available on the AED400 board.

Examples of Our Modular Approach

1) Graphic of example one of our modular approach The AED400 FPGA carrier board with three SSU444 modules attached provides twelve A/D channels that operate at 40 Msps each with 12-bit resolution.
2) Graphic of example two of our modular approach The AED400 FPGA carrier board with six SSU452 modules mounted on it provides twelve D/A channels that operate at 1 Mhz with 16-bit resolution.
3) Graphic of example three of our modular approach The AED400 FPGA carrier board with two SSU434s and one SSU452 provides eight 16-bit A/D channels operating at 250 Ksps and two 14-bit D/A channels operating at 66 Mhz.
4) Graphic of example four of our modular approach The AED400 FPGA carrier board with one SSU431, one SSU441 and one SSU432. This combination provides one 16-bit A/D channel that can operate at 3 Msps, one 20-bit A/D channel with a rate of 96 Ksps, and two 16-bit D/A channels with 10 us settling time and a rate of 1 MHz.
